Sheet Music Night Stands

Hello friends!!
I hope you had a wonderful halloween last night.
Here in BC, unfortunately it rained but we managed to go out and got lots of candies:)

This is my son right before heading out for trick or treat.
He made the head himself but do you know what this is?
It's a robot from LMFAO but many people thought it was Sponge Bob!! lol

OK, back to furniture...Yesterday I finished these night stands.

We had 2 stands from a friend when he moved to Montreal a while ago.
I forgot to take a before picture....
The drawer front had a green panel insert, the rest was pretty much looked like this wood.
My son wanted to painted it black and he did it, but after the first coat,
he decided painting was not his thing, lol
( he painted the other one)
So it became my next project.

I painted in light blue and distressed a little.

Added wall papers on the drawer front.

I like the little gold showing through on the handles :)

They are Palliser night tables and the sticker inside says 99.
So it was probably made in that year...

They are good quality night tables and in good condition but
the tops were not really smooth and had some ring marks.
I tried to sand it but they never disappered
so I decided to add some sheet music to cover it.
I love them because they give a piece whimsical feel :)

Here are the finished products:)

Sheet music was glued and sealed with Mod Podge.

I think they turned out pretty good.

I'm almost done with a dresser so hopefully I can share that with you soon.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone:)

Homemade Chalk Paint ~Gray & Blue Buffet~

The weather has been incredibly beautiful here in BC.
I finished my buffet yesterday and was planning to take pictures of it today.
I woke up this moring and it was cloudy, making inside the house a bit dark....

so I dragged the buffet to the entrance and
opened the door to get a little bit of sun light :)

( That's why you see the door in the mirror)

Anyway, it started like this.
I thought about "paint or not to paint" for a while
because as you can see, it was quite nice, um, from far.
But up close, she showed her age and was too orange for me
and also I have another buffet which I decided not to paint
so I decided to paint this one.....(and that's my excuse to paint)

She's got the cutest hardwares ever!
I left them as is, just gave them a good cleaning, I think it goes well with the painted buffet.
I also painted white lines on the front.

All the furniture I paint I whip up my homemade chalk paint.
I've been making it for a while and I found out that if you add more unsanded grout to the paint and dilute it with more water,
the quality of the paint becomes more chalky, which I love :)

Love the voluptuous legs...

I added music sheets inside for a whimsical feel :)

Glued it with Mod Podge and sealed it with it as well.

I'm happy with the way she turned out :)

I'm currently working on a French chair, but the sewing machine needle broke yesterday and the machine is acting up, hope I can make it work and finish the chair soon.
Take care everyone:)

My Rocking Chair is now really Rockin' :)

My husband bought this rocking chair for me when we were expecting our first baby.........
( and that was 1999 and we ended up having 3 kids)
Now the year is 2012 and our oldest is going to be an official teenager next month...
Oh boy.....lol
I reupholstered this chair once but we use it everyday so the seat & arm rest cover got ragged and was very ugly...
We were using the chair without the arm rest covers for a while.

Look at it!  ~~~Horror!!!~~~
The fabric for the back is the one I did, the seat is original....
I was kind of ashamed of myself everytime we had friends over.
( and they know I like to redo stuff!!!)

So finally I decided to do something about it.
First is of course, painting.

I used very light grey and added black glaze.
Then moved on to do the cover.
( It took me forever to get this sewing stage though..)
Last time I re-covered it, I didn't use sturdy fabric so it didn't last (of course)

I'm sure anyone who likes to paint furniture and decorate
loves miss mustard seed and I am one of them.
I love what she does and I got this idea of using  drop cloths to upholster
from her website ( which is full of gorgeous inspirations!!)
If you'd like to read her post on drop cloths, please visit here.

Drop cloths are affordable, sturdy and have this canvassy-look, I love it.
First I washed it to get rid of that musty smell and to avoid the later shrinkage.

I didn't use a pattern or anything, just went with the shape of the chair, pinned the fabric directly on the cushions and sewed.
For me, no fuss is VERY important:)

My cat Candy came to help me.....
Um...Candy? I need the arm rest underneath you? Hello? lol

Made the covers and it looked too simple so I made my own stencil.

Using regular acrylic paint in navy blue and

VOILA!!

Now I'm not ashamed of myself anymore:)

I'm happy with how my stencil truned out.

Now it's really happily rockin',don't you think??
I hope it'll last for....another 10 years!! lol

Have a wonderful, happy weekend everybody:)
